There is no need to increase the limit of electricity consumption. This was announced at the meeting in the government on the preparation of the population and sectors of the economy for the heating season 2017-2018 by the director of the State Agency for Regulation of the Fuel and Energy Complex Taalaibek Nurbashev.
According to him, analysis in regions of Kyrgyzstan showed that 80% of the country’s population consumed up to one thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity per month.
“As you know, for up to 700 kilowatt-hours a consumer pays 77 tyiyn per kilowatt, and if more, he will pay 2 soms 16 tyiyn,” he said.
As Taalaibek Nurbashev noted, the limit on electricity consumption was introduced in 2011, it was necessary to save energy because of low water.
According to him, the decision to increase the limit to 1,000 kilowatt-hours for remote areas was political to support the population of these areas.
“Now the deputies are asking to raise the limit to 1,500 kilowatts, Naryn residents ask, Toktogul residents asked to cancel it at all, but I think that there is no need for it, we already have the lowest tariff in the world – 77 tyiyns”, Taalaibek Nurbashev said. “The increase in the limit will benefit only 20% of the population, who pay 2 soms 16 tyiyns, and 80% of Kyrgyz citizens don’t exceed the limit of 1,000 kilowatt hours per month”.
