Compared to July 2016, the total retail trade turnover rose by 3.9% in July 2017. Turnover of retail trade in food products increased by 4.6%, and turnover of retail trade in non-food products grew by 3.3%.
The most significant turnover growth in non-food product group was recorded in retail sale of information and communication equipment (15%), retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (14.4%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (13.6%), and retail sale of clothing and footwear (6.1%). In its turn, turnover drop was registered in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (4.3%) as well as retail sale of automotive fuel (2.6%), according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
The total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 5.3%, without taking into account the calendar influence.
Compared to June in July retail trade turnover went up by 0.8% (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 0.4%, while turnover of retail trade in non-food products rose by 0.9%.
Growth in turnover was observed in retail sale via stalls and markets (by 3%), retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (2.4%), retail sale of information and communication equipment (2.3%), as well as retail sale of automotive fuel (1.7%).
Turnover decline, in its turn, was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (by 9.7%), retail sale in non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (3.5%), retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (2.7%), as well as retail sale of clothing and footwear (1.1%).
Compared to June, the total retail trade turnover at current prices rose by 2.8% in July, without taking into account seasonality. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
