Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation to review prospects to deepen the ties.
Both sides noted with satisfaction the intensification of contacts at all levels, as well as actively implemented joint projects in trade and economic, transport-communication, energy, cultural and humanitarian and other spheres.
A number of major projects and programs are implemented in Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring sustainable social and economic development, outstripping the development of infrastructure and raising the standard of living of the population.
During the telephone conversation, the leaders of the two nations further discussed the practical aspects of implementing the agreements reached and the decisions taken during the summits held in Turkmenistan in March and May.
They also exchanged views on the most topical issues of regional and international policy of mutual interest.
In 2015, the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to about $320 million, in January-August 2016 – $177 million.
Uzbekistan exports fertilizers, construction materials, fruit and vegetables, electrical and mechanical equipment, vehicles, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, services to Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan supplies oil products, propylene polymers, and sulfuric acid to Uzbekistan.
