Residents of Ternopil region in western Ukraine are actively choosing solar energy as an alternative to natural gas. Over the past year, 120 private solar power plants started to operate in the region, First Deputy Chairman of the Ternopil Regional State Administration Ivan Krysak said.
“Ternopil region occupies the second position in Ukraine in terms of the number of households where the solar power plants have been installed. 120 private solar power plants started operating in the region last year. We are going to launch a pilot project on the establishment of solar water heating systems in four state-financed medical institutions,” Krysak said.
In general, the use of alternative energy sources, primarily local fuels, will allow the region to replace natural gas consumption by almost 70%. (Ukraine/Business World Magazine)
