On February 11-20, air temperatures were 1-4 degrees C below normal in the south and south-east of Kazakhstan, where winter crops are cultivated. They were 2 degrees ‘ above normal in some areas. Precipitation occurred at above-normal rates everywhere.
Frequent thaws that lasted for up to 6 days in the south of the country and for up to 7 days in the south-east, alternating with subzero night air temperatures (-10-22 degrees C in the south and -12-25 degrees C in the south-east) might have damaged underdeveloped plants in winter wheat crops.
Stable snow cover was seen in West Kazakhstan region – this contributes to higher survival of winter rye crops. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
