Ukraine substantially boosted sunseed exports in October and they hit five-year high.
59.1 KMT of the product was exported that month against 2.9 KMT in September and 7.4 KMT at the same time last season. Ukraine exported a total 62 KMT of sunseed in 2016/2017 (September-October) that is seven times the volume shipped for the same period in 2015/2016 (8.8 KMT) and only below September-October 2003/2004 exports of over 170 KMT. This pace of sunseed exports confirms experts’ 2016/2017 outlook at 500 KMT.
Top sunseed buyers are European countries with an export share of 68% (41.8 KMT). Turkey, having boosted sunseed purchases to 17.5 KMT in October, thereby increased its portion in Ukraine’s exports of this commodity to 28%. The country’s interest in Ukrainian sunseed is increasingly stronger from year to year. For instance, Turkey already imported more sunseed in the two months of MY 2016/2017 than during the entire marketing year of 2015/2016 – 16.6 KMT. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
