In January-August the Freeport of Riga handled 23,872,900 tons of cargo (down by 10.8% YoY). Coal transshipment fell by 19.2% to 7,963,300 tons, oil products – by 18.5% to 5,916,500 tons, wood pellets – by 10% to 387,000 t, ore grew by 79.4% to 269,100 tons.
The port’s container throughput climbed by 4.7% to 248,359 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 6.1% to 398,236 persons including 59,883 cruise passengers (+6.5%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 ha. The port’s berth length is 13,800 m, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 m. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2015, the port’s throughput totaled 40,055,800 tons of cargo.
