Most operators of the Ukrainian market noted that the qualitative characteristics of new crop wheat mainly corresponded to the State Standard requirements (DSTU), and in general, were significantly higher compared with the previous season results. However, some market participants report on coming of grains with low gluten content, low natural weight, and infected with Fusarium blight and smut. Some regions of Ukraine (in particular, Kharkiv oblast) have significant stocks of sprouted grains, due to the rainy weather conditions during the periods of ripening and harvesting.
Market operators estimated the ratio of milling and feed wheat in the general production structure at 55:45% respectively. During several seasons the share of feed wheat dominated in Ukraine (in 2015/2016 MY – 60%).
To date, the market started actively receiving 3-grade milling wheat and feed wheat. At the same time, agrarians are holding back sales of 2-grade wheat with high-quality indicators, planning to sell the grain at more reasonable prices. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
