According to official information, Ukraine exported some 1355.3 KMT of corn in October, up by 3% YoY (1314.8 KMT).
Nonetheless, Ukrainian corn exports did lag 3.6% behind 2015 in the first two months of the season. Ukraine supplied 1411.9 KMT of corn to foreign markets in September-October (1465.1 KMT at the same time in MY 2015/2016).
The EU continues to be the key destination market for Ukrainian corn. Egypt also remains among the key importers. In addition, Iran managed to become one of the top three export markets in the period under review. The country bought 250.5 KMT of corn in October. This represents more than 37% of all deliveries in this direction in 2015/2016 (673.4 KMT). Ukrainian exporters have a chance to increase their presence in this market because Iran’s key corn supplier – Brazil – will intensify exports no sooner than June 2017. The Iranian market is quite capable of compensating for the loss of the Chinese outlet for Ukraine. China has not yet purchased corn in view of huge corn carryovers in the country.
