The Government is expanding the Affordable Medicines programme. An additional 51 international non-proprietary names (INNs) of medicines will be added to the updated list, which will take effect from July, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko has announced.
The newly included medicines cover the management of high blood pressure, treatment of heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, prevention of blood clots, lowering cholesterol levels, as well as therapies for patients recovering from myocardial infarction or those at increased risk of stroke.
“The Affordable Medicines programme enables Ukrainians to receive essential medicines free of charge or with a partial co-payment using an electronic prescription. In 2026, the programme’s budget increased to UAH 8.7 billion. Since its launch, more than 6 million Ukrainians have benefited from the programme, including nearly 2 million patients since the beginning of 2026 alone,” the Prime Minister stressed.
To obtain medicines through the programme, patients must consult a doctor, receive an electronic prescription and take it to a pharmacy displaying the “Affordable Medicines Available Here” sign.
Importantly, if a Ukrainian manufacturer offers a medicine that meets the established requirements and has the lowest price, it may receive preference for inclusion in the programme.
“This will support the development of domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing while strengthening the reliability of medicine supply for patients,” the Prime Minister emphasised. (Government portal)
