Ukraine and Turkey have agreed to increase the number of permits for international transportation, as well as to begin joint work on the digitalization of the permit system.
The relevant agreements were reached during a meeting of the Joint Commission on International Road Transport.
“We are consistently working on the digitalization of international transportation and simplifying procedures for carriers. The agreement with Turkey to launch work on electronic permits is another step towards a modern and transparent system of international transportation. At the same time, it is important that we increase the number of permits for cargo and passenger transportation, because this is direct support for Ukrainian business and the mobility of people,” said Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.
In particular, the parties agreed on an additional exchange of permits for the transportation of goods to/from third countries for 2026 in the amount of 300 units. This is 10% more than the previously approved quota.
Ukraine and Turkey also agreed on an additional 300 permits for bilateral passenger transportation. Previously, the annual quota was 400 permits.
In addition, the parties agreed that in 2027 the number of permits for passenger transportation will be increased from 400 to 700.
A separate area of cooperation is the digitalization of the permit system for international transportation. Ukraine and Turkey are starting joint work on the implementation of electronic permits, which should simplify procedures for carriers and make the system more transparent and convenient.
The agreements are aimed at developing digital services, simplifying international transportation, and strengthening transport cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey.
The exchange of permits took place on May 7 during the International Transport Forum in Leipzig. In the near future, permits will be available to Ukrainian carriers at the points of issue.
As a reminder, bilateral and transit freight transportation between Ukraine and Turkey was liberalized until the end of the war. This means that separate permits are not required for such transportation. (Development Ministry)
