The Moldovan authorities have already taken some insurance decisions and are constantly monitoring the country’s food security in the context of the war in Ukraine. The statement was made by the Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita during a press conference.
“We have imposed some restrictions on the export of corn and other foodstuffs, and we intend to make other decisions related to the economic reorientation of the country, which will come with some transaction costs,” the prime minister said.
At the same time, Gavrilita said that in recent years, the economy of the Republic of Moldova had been increasingly oriented towards trade relations with the European Union.
“Thus, at present, the share of trade with Ukraine and Russia, states involved in the war, is only 15%,” she said.
The prime minister also referred to the rise in gas prices, the cost of which had reached historic levels today.
“It’s a worrying increase. What is happening is inadmissible and we will discuss it with external partners. We hope that the war will end and that we will be able to return to this subject in normal conditions,” said Gavrilita. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
