Ukraine and Lebanon are deepening cooperation in the agricultural sector to ensure stable supplies of Ukrainian agricultural products, strengthen food security, and boost bilateral trade. This was agreed upon during an online meeting of the leadership of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Lebanon.
“Ukraine has always been and remains a reliable guarantor of global food security. Despite the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, systematic shelling of agricultural infrastructure, and threats to shipping in the Black Sea, we continue to fulfill our obligations to our partners. Realizing the critical importance of Ukrainian grain for Lebanon, we are ready to take all necessary measures to ensure regular and uninterrupted supplies,” stressed the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky.
For his part, Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani confirmed his country’s interest in regular supplies of Ukrainian grain and other agricultural products.
Traditionally, Ukraine has provided about 80% of Lebanese wheat imports and is a key supplier of sunflower oil and corn. Russian aggression, port blockades and threats to shipping have disrupted established routes and increased logistics costs, while stable supplies of Ukrainian grain are critical for Lebanon’s food security.
As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to resume the work of the Joint Ukrainian-Lebanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Its activities will contribute to the coordination of bilateral trade, the resolution of logistical and organizational issues, the expansion of the list of Ukrainian products on the Lebanese market and the development of reliable supply routes.
