On March 9, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi held an online meeting with the Bureau for Chemical Substance of the Republic of Poland on the development of bilateral cooperation in chemical safety.
Oksana Mylianyk, an expert from the Recovery and Reform Support Team (RST), also took part in the event. The Polish side was represented by Agnieszka Dudra, President of the Bureau for Chemical Substances.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues related to bringing Ukrainian legislation into line with European Union requirements and practical steps for its implementation. In particular, they addressed:
– The creation of chemical safety registries;
– Improvements to mercury management procedures;
– Monitoring of persistent organic pollutants;
– Introduction of a system for granting consent for the export and import of hazardous chemicals.
“Ensuring chemical safety is an important part of Ukraine’s European integration course. Cooperation with Polish partners allows us to use their practical experience to create an effective and modern management system in this area,” said Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi.
The ministry also continues to cooperate with the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KEMI) on the implementation of European legislation in the field of chemical safety. Coordination of efforts with international partners is an important factor in the effective implementation of reforms and the formation of a modern chemical risk management system in Ukraine.
