In Russia in the fourth quarter of 2025, organizations reduced the number of employees by 59% compared to the same period a year earlier. A total of 32,600 people were subject to optimization. This follows from the Rosstat report “Social and Economic Situation in Russia”, with which Vedomosti became acquainted. According to official statistics, layoffs due to optimization gradually increased over the past year. In the first three months, 21,800 people were subject to layoffs, in the second quarter — 23,700, and in the third — 29,500.
By industry, the most layoffs were in the field of public administration and security — 4,900 people, in the field of healthcare and social services — 4,600, and in the field of education — 3,800. Across all manufacturing industries, the total number of people subject to optimization amounted to 3,900. The process most affected the production of other non-metallic mineral products, wood processing, and the production of wood products. At the same time, no layoffs were recorded in such industries as the production of clothing, leather and leather products, paper, paper products, coke and petroleum products, medicines, and materials used for medical purposes (The Moscow Times).
