The sharp increase in the recycling fee didn’t help AvtoVAZ: by the end of 2025, it reduced both sales and market share. However, new Russian manufacturers – companies engaged in assembling Chinese cars – are strengthening their positions.
According to data from the analytical agency “AUTOSTAT”, 1.326 million new passenger cars were sold in Russia over the year – 15.6% less than in 2024. Lada’s result – 329 thousand cars – is almost 25% worse than a year earlier, and its market share has fallen below 25% (28% in 2024). “The legendary AvtoVAZ is doing worse than the market as a whole. The recycling fee, which AvtoVAZ lobbied for, ultimately didn’t help,” – note MMI analysts (The Moscow Times).
