Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) confirmed their commitment to further developing partnership initiatives aimed at modernising and restoring the agricultural sector.
These outcomes were achieved following the fourth meeting of the Japan-Ukraine Joint Task Force on Revitalization Strategy of Agriculture. The meeting was held via videoconference, involving representatives from Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, leading Japanese companies and international partner organisations.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk highlighted the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation in agricultural recovery, particularly through the adoption of Japanese technologies, digital solutions and innovations in Ukraine’s agri-complex. The Ukrainian side presented an updated analytical overview of the current state of the agricultural sector.
Ukrainian representatives noted that, due to the russian war, the area of cultivated land had decreased, agricultural infrastructure has been damaged, machinery destroyed and production capacities reduced. Nevertheless, the agricultural sector remains a key driver of the national economy.
The parties discussed trends in diversifying export markets, with a focus on the European Union, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
The meeting included representatives from Japanese companies NTC International, Greein Inc., Seiwa Co., Zensho Holdings and Mayekawa MFG, who presented ongoing projects supporting Ukraine’s agriculture.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing interest in expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects in agriculture, particularly in technological upgrades and productivity enhancement. (Government portal)
