Plans for the development of distributed generation and issues of energy supplies for the regions were discussed at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal on March 26.
The event brought together Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba, Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko, as well as representatives of the Presidential Office and national energy companies.
The meeting was dedicated to reviewing the situation with energy supply in the regions and determining the next steps to install generation facilities. According to the Ministry of Energy, as of the end of 2024, a total of 967 MW of distributed generation has already been commissioned, including 109 MW since the beginning of the year. According to Denys Shmyhal, the priority of this ministry is the development of wind energy and energy storage systems.
The Prime Minister also stressed that work on the creation of regional energy passports had been completed. To support cities, 468 cogeneration units and 284 block-modular boiler houses with a total capacity of over 1.4 GW have already been delivered to the regions. Priority is given to the frontline regions. The equipment is currently being installed and put into operation.
“In order to enhance our energy independence, the Government has launched soft loan programs for the installation of energy equipment for households and businesses. The programs operate successfully. In particular, businesses have submitted 3,800 applications for UAH 81.7 billion. We have already provided loans worth UAH 14.1 billion,” said Denys Shmyhal.
In addition, participants heard proposals to liberalise the connection of private generation facilities to the grid. The relevant ministries have been instructed to work on further simplification of procedures to ensure the simplest and fastest possible process.
“We continue to work on strengthening Ukraine’s energy sustainability and independence,” said Denys Shmyhal. (Government portal)
