Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko held his first online meeting with the newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves. The parties discussed key issues of cooperation between the two countries as well as Ukraine’s further budget.
Sergii Marchenko expressed gratitude to the UK’s Government for its strong support during the period of unprecedented historical challenges, noting the importance of UK assistance for ensuring Ukraine’s financial stability. The timely resources provided allowed Ukraine to effectively counter the aggressor.
“We are grateful to the UK Government for its leadership in supporting Ukraine. Your important and courageous decisions taken in the first months of russia’s full-scale invasion have set a positive example for other partners. Financial, military and sanctions support is the basis of our success and the success of the entire civilized world. The cooperation between the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the UK Treasury has consistently been effective, and I am confident it will remain so,” said Sergii Marchenko.
The Minister of Finance also noted that the UK was one of the largest donor countries of financial assistance to Ukraine. Since February 24, 2022, Ukraine has received more than $2.5 billion from the United Kingdom for the needs of the state budget.
During the conversation, Sergii Marchenko emphasized the need to finance Ukraine’s state budget deficit in 2025. Continuing to counteract the aggressive actions of the russian federation requires Ukraine to finance the security and defence sector in the amount of more than $3 billion per month.
The Government of Ukraine directs all internal revenues and borrowings to counter the aggressor and bring Ukraine’s prevail closer.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer assured Ukraine of its continued support for Ukraine and readiness to deepen the partnership. (Government portal)
