Ukraine and Hungary have agreed to open the Velyka Palad – Nagyhodos checkpoint for passenger vehicles and to allow the movement of empty trucks weighing more than 7.5 tons at the Luzhanka- Beregsurany checkpoint.
The relevant amendments to the Agreement between the governments on border traffic control were signed by Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov and Ambassador of Hungary to Ukraine Antal Heizer.
“We continue to work consistently on the development of the western border to strengthen export opportunities and ensure fast border crossing by passenger transport. The signed amendments to the agreement with Hungary allow us to start planning design and infrastructure works to launch the new Velyka Palad – Nagyhodos checkpoint and ensure the movement of empty trucks at Luzhanka. We are also considering the possibility of building a new cargo checkpoint at Dyida – Beregdaroc to increase the capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. At the same time, we are working to start substantive negotiations on the introduction of joint customs and border control with Hungary. This will allow us to speed up control procedures and reduce the time required to cross the border,” said Oleksandr Kubrakov.
Following the signing of the amendments to the Agreement, the draft is subject to ratification.
Ukraine has 5 road border crossing points with Hungary. Only the Chop – Zahony checkpoint can handle trucks weighing more than 7.5 tons. Both loaded and empty trucks use it. About 220 trucks cross it daily exiting Ukraine. (Government portal)
