Over $105 million will be invested in the modernization of the road infrastructure and of the border crossing points from Moldova. The members of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration approved the evaluation notice for the starting of the negotiations with the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), in order to carry out the Moldova Rural Connectivity Project.
The Moldova Rural Connectivity Project provides for the connection of local communities with economic opportunities; facilitation of trade and extension of the solidarity corridors; consolidation of the sustainability, of the capacity of carrying out and of support for the project management.
Thus, IBRD will provide Moldova with a loan of $100 million and IDA will provide a loan of $5.980 million. The money will be invested in the rehabilitation and modernization of priority regional roads. Also, emphasis will be put on the traffic safety, through the construction of infrastructures of transport, which is non-monitored adjacently to local roads. At the same time, decision-makers plan the modernization of the Leuseni border crossing point and the Giurgiulesti border checkpoint, as well as the construction of the Ungheni border crossing point.
