Thanks to the largest repair campaign at energy facilities in the history of Ukraine’s independence, efficient air defence and sufficient fuel resources, Ukraine will complete the 2023-2024 heating season smoothly. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.
“Last year we carried out the largest repair campaign in the history of Ukraine. It has not stopped and continues. We set ourselves the goal of adding 1.7 GW of capacity to the system before the start of the winter maintenance period. As of the end of winter, we have added 2.2 GW, and as of now, we have already added up to 3 GW of generating capacity to the system,” said the Minister of Energy.
German Galushchenko stressed that the power system was operating stably and that generation capacities were sufficient to meet the needs of consumption.
“In addition, we have a surplus of electricity, and we provided emergency assistance to Poland at their request. We also have 13 units of generating equipment in reserve. The system is balanced, and we have the capacities to export electricity,” he said.
The minister also noted that there were sufficient resources to ensure the confident completion of the autumn-winter season.
“Today we have about 8.5 billion cubic metres of gas in storage facilities. This is more than enough to finish the season with confidence. We also have more than 1 million tons of coal in storages, which is 230,000 tons more than we planned to accumulate in case of a critical situation. Therefore we will finish this season smoothly. Everyone will have electricity and heat,” assured German Galushchenko. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
