The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) requested an additional grant of 50 million lei (2.5 million euros) for certain categories of farmers. The request came after the ministry completed the process of analyzing data previously requested from district agricultural directorates on farmers who sowed corn and were affected by the summer 2023 drought.
“Based on the information, it was proposed to the Government that an additional support measure be set up, namely: the allocation of 50 million lei to 405 economic agents, of which 392 were corn growers and another 13 were farmers from the north of the country who recorded damage on agricultural land after the storms and hail of July 25 and 26, 2023. All farmers have documents confirming the damage”, MAIA said.
During the past year, immediately after the bad weather, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea visited several localities in the north of the country and had discussions with farmers, coming with the promise that the situation would be analyzed and possibilities would be identified for the farmers, who suffered as a result calamities, to benefit from support.
