Dependence on russian energy sources is a direct threat to the national security of countries. This was emphasised by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko in a video address to the participants of the Baltic Energy Forum.
The head of the Ministry of Energy noted that russia had long been using energy as a weapon, and last winter both Ukraine and the whole of Europe were once again convinced of this.
“We expect that russia will continue to use energy as a weapon, threatening the entire civilised world. This is a major challenge for all of us. But the coordinated actions of the partner countries can repel russia,” said German Galushchenko, adding that dependence on russian fossil fuels posed a direct threat to the national security of the countries.
The minister also stressed the importance of the green transition, which would not only help solve climate problems but also strengthen the resilience of energy systems.
The head of the Ministry of Energy also thanked the forum participants for supporting Ukraine in its war against russia, and stressed the importance of the support that the Ukrainian energy sector was receiving from the Lithuanian side.
“I sincerely thank the Lithuanian government for the support we have received since the first days of the full-scale invasion. We have received a lot of equipment, including two powerful autotransformers, which we really need to survive the next winter. Thank you for your support, we will definitely win this war together,” concluded German Galushchenko. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
