Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with the Italian delegation led by Special Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Davide La Cecilia and attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Ukraine Pier Francesco Zazo.
German Galushchenko thanked Italy for the 15 shipments of humanitarian aid, totalling over 161 tons, already sent to Ukraine and spoke of the current needs of the energy sector, in particular high-voltage equipment. According to the Head of the Ministry of Energy, it is expected that the enemy will continue to target energy infrastructure facilities next winter, so it is important not only to carry out restoration and repair work on the affected facilities, but also to build up sufficient reserves in order to be able to restore energy supplies to consumers quickly.
The minister also stressed that electricity imports from European countries could play an important role in balancing the system next winter. Ukraine is counting on an ENTSO-E decision to increase transmission capacity from the current 1.2 GW to 2 GW.
The parties discussed areas of cooperation in the gas sector, including the implementation of projects in the field of renewable gases and hydrogen production. They stressed the high potential of cooperation in the implementation of modern energy-efficient and carbon-free technologies and projects in the process of Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
The meeting also touched upon the issues of ensuring energy security for Ukraine and the European continent as a whole. German Galushchenko stressed that the Peace Formula proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not only provided clear proposals to resolve the potentially dangerous situation at the russia-occupied ZNPP, but also offered new forms of global cooperation to ensure energy security.
