Last year, sugar beet showed the best marginal indicators compared to other crops, and this trend continued in 2023, Roman Ogorodov, the business manager of “Ukrprominvest-Agro”, said.
The company noted that the areas under beets as part of the partner program “Sugar beet – a smart choice!” increased from 8 thousand hectares to 17.3 thousand hectares.
In general, the structure of “Ukrprominvest-Agro’s” sown areas has practically not changed. Areas under cultivation remained unchanged, and changes in areas in terms of crops did not exceed 2%.
In this production season, the company set aside 25,800 ha for sugar beet. Thus, the total area of sugar beets for processing at UPI-Agro sugar factories increased by 26%, to 43,000 hectares.
“We have significantly revised our approaches to nutrition systems, taking into account, on the one hand, the high prices of resources, and on the other hand, the lower “removal” of elements from the soil, due to the fact that the 2022 season was very dry,” Roman Ogorodov added.
Also, according to him, a feature of this year was the earliest possible start of the sugar beet sowing campaign. This enabled the production units of the company to sow beets on 65% of the areas before the onset of protracted rains during the first half of April. This, in turn, creates the prerequisites for an earlier start-up of the company’s sugar plants in the 2023 production season. (Ukrsugar/Business World Magazine)
