The Government has approved a decision to increase the electricity tariff for households to UAH 2.64 per kW.
According to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, this decision is extremely difficult, but necessary for large-scale preparation of the power system for the next heating season, which is underway at the country’s energy facilities.
“Ukraine has gone through the most difficult winter in its history in the face of massive russian attacks on the energy system. The largest repair campaign of the energy infrastructure since Ukraine’s independence is currently underway. The scale of damage and losses is significant. The tariff increase is a contribution to ensuring the system’s sustainability,” said German Galushchenko.
The minister explained that the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission had addressed the Ministry of Energy with a proposal to raise the household tariff to the market level, i.e. to UAH 5.5, in two stages. In the first stage, the Commission proposed to raise the tariff to UAH 2.88 including VAT per 1 kWh.
“But we consider it possible to set the tariff at UAH 2.64 per kWh. This is the minimum tariff that will allow us to maintain the power system,” said German Galushchenko.
According to him, with the tariff increase, the average electricity bill for one family will grow by about UAH 250.
“We assume that the next heating season will see the same systematic shelling of energy facilities as last winter. That is why we must use all possible resources to restore the facilities and protect them,” the Minister stressed.
The Minister of Energy also noted that it was planned to maintain subsidies for the population and increase funding for the fund for subsidising utilities for vulnerable groups of the population so that all Ukrainians who needed state assistance received it.
