The Georgian capital city of Tbilisi hosted a business forum organised by officials and involving businesses of Georgia and the United Arab Emirates, with the event involving discussions of trade turnover and investment between the two countries.
Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the UAE, were among the speakers at the forum, with the former telling the audience he was confident the investment potential of Georgia would increase “even more” in the future and would see more investments made from the UAE.
The Ministry of Economy of Georgia cited Davitashvili in noting trade relations between the countries had been developing “dynamically” over the recent years.
He told those attending the event the past year’s figures had been “particularly successful” with trade turnover exceeding $400 million, and added 2023 would be “much more intensive”.
“Since 2003, investments of $1.10 billion have been made in Georgia. I hope we will receive investments from the UAE in real estate, transport, infrastructure and production development”, Davitashvili added.
The ministry said the Emirati private sector showed interest in agriculture, logistics, retail and other sectors of the Georgian economy.
Davitashvili also announced the visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates to Georgia this year was confirmed, and said the occasion would “give an additional incentive to businesses to deepen economic ties”. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
