More than 26,500 disadvantaged families received emergency aid of 4,900 lei as one-off aid for November 2022 – May 2023.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (MMPS), at this stage, the World Food Program has transferred the payment to 32,057 beneficiaries from the 39,924 selected in the first round, in this sense being allocated approximately 157 million lei (7.8 million euro) from the funds of UN organizations: UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, IOM and WFP, based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed at the end of last year with MMPS.
The families that can benefit from emergency financial support are selected by a local committee, made up of representatives of the town hall, the district social assistance department and civil society.
The emergency financial aid is transferred through the Western Union platform and can be collected from Moldovan Post Offices or any banking institution that operates with this system.
At the initial stage, it was planned to offer emergency financial aid to about 40 thousand people, later the number of beneficiaries was expanded to about 56 thousand. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
