Mykola Solskyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, held an online working meeting with Mark Steven Spencer, Minister of State at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the urgent problems of the Ukrainian agricultural sector and financial support for Ukrainian farmers.
Mykola Solskyi emphasized that the war and, in addition, unfavorable weather conditions had created a number of problems for Ukrainian farmers.
Currently, Ukraine’s agricultural sector needs financial support and assistance in increasing market liquidity.
Solskyi noted that Ukrainian farmers needed to be provided with credit facilities. The World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have launched programs to provide Ukraine with appropriate financial support.
The minister suggested to his British counterpart that the UK Government and other financial institutions, including the World Bank, should consider a partnership to support the financing of relevant loan programs for Ukrainian farmers.
The parties agreed to return to considering the possibility of providing support to Ukraine’s agricultural sector. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
