On January 26, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held an online meeting with Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate of Iceland Gudlaugur Thor Thordarson.
The parties discussed assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector in the face of massive russian attacks and bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
German Galushchenko emphasized that for more than three months now, the enemy had been shelling Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities daily with various types of weapons – missiles, drones and artillery.
“Today was the thirteenth massive attack, when the russians launched 55 missiles aimed at our energy facilities,” he said.
The minister emphasized that Ukrainian power engineers were working 24/7 to restore the facilities, using, among other things, the assistance provided by international partners.
Gudlaugur Thor Thordarson emphasized that his country supported the Ukrainian people and would provide all necessary assistance, including to the Ukrainian energy sector.
German Galushchenko thanked his colleague for the support and contribution to the Fund, emphasizing that this assistance would help stabilize the Ukrainian energy sector.
The Minister of Energy said that Ukraine was working on projects to restore and rebuild its energy system on the principles of decentralization. One of the solutions to achieve these goals is the development of renewable energy, which plays a key role in the Icelandic energy system. The ministers noted their interest in developing cooperation in this area. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
