United Airports of Georgia has started a GEL 8-million (about $2.8 million) renovation that will add a new runway at the Kutaisi international airport.
In the two-week work, the new three-kilometre runway will be added to ensure the airport’s ability to receive larger aircraft and “make operations more flexible”, the organisation’s head of infrastructure development service Vasil Kunchulia has said.
United Airports director Tamar Archuadze said airlines operating through the airport had rearranged their flight schedules to allow for the renovation effort, noting companies would make flights to Tbilisi international airport during the two-week pause.
Flights at the Kutaisi airport will be resumed starting October 25, Achuadze added.
The renovation works are being carried out by the Black Sea Group company, with renovation costs covered by United Airports of Georgia. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
