Polish companies will start to reduce employment costs when they are no longer able to pass rising costs on to consumers, an economist from business lobby Lewiatan has warned.
Poland’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 43.0 points in September 2022 from 40.9 points in August, economic researcher S&P Global reported on October 3.
In a comment to the latest PMI figures, Mariusz Zielonka said that “companies still have room to pass increased manufacturing costs on to consumers”.
“When this room is gone, we’ll see a reduction of employment costs in industry,” Zielonka added.
Despite the PMI rebounding from this year’s bottom, “logistics managers are still expecting a recession,” Zielonka said. (The First News/Business World Magazine)
