About 70,000 tons of grapes of various varieties have been processed as part of the ongoing harvest in Georgia’s eastern winemaking region of Kakheti.
The harvest has been processed by 150 wine companies and cellars, with about 7,000 growers handing in their grapes to private wine enterprises this year.
As of September 16, over 300 wine companies and cellars have been registered in the harvest coordination centre in the regional city of Telavi, with the office offering support to growers and producers around the clock.
The Georgian government has allocated GEL 150 million (about $53 million) in subsidies for the 2022 seasonal harvest. The government said in August it would subsidise the harvest due to the “record-high grape yield”, with PM Irakli Garibashvili pledging “not a single kilogram of grapes will be left behind” in accepting produce from farmers.
