With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine now in its seventh month, Lithuania has called to tighten exports of dual-use goods to Russia at the EU level.
“As military resources used by Russia for the war become scarcer, this leaves room for resourcefulness, and certain goods and products, which were never used as military means before, might become ones,” the Lithuanian Foreign Aggairs Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said after a meeting of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) foreign ministers in Kaunas.
“Therefore, the countries taking part in this meeting have confirmed a political will to propose to the European Commission to review export lists,” he added.
In his words, this is done to “propose fixes for” gaps in EU sanctions on Russia.
Landsbergis also stressed that it was necessary to win not just the war in Ukraine but also the “war of narrative”, which Russia was trying to turn in its favour. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
