During his working visit to Warsaw on May 5, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with the President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Poland for significant financial assistance to Ukraine totaling $2.7 billion. He also thanked the Polish Government for supporting Ukraine, including with weaponry. The parties discussed strengthening cooperation in the defense sphere.
During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal and Mateusz Morawiecki signed the agreements by concluding a Memorandum of Understanding on Poland’s Strengthening of Ukraine’s Defense Capabilities.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine also raised the issue of increasing export opportunities from the country to avoid a food crisis in the world.
“Poland today is the main gateway for Ukrainian exports. russia’s blockade of Ukrainian seaports could lead to a global food crisis. We propose to find formats for the creation of “green corridors” on our border for grain exports,” urged Denys Shmyhal.
Head of the Ukrainian Government informed the Polish side that Ukraine was working with the United States on a mechanism to confiscate frozen russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine for recovery purposes. In addition, the relevant legislation is due to be adopted by Canada in the near future.
“In the future, this should become a new model of world security, so that the aggressor knows that all his assets will be confiscated and transferred to the country affected by his attack. We have to implement this together,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.
Mateusz Morawiecki noted that the EU was also considering a mechanism to confiscate property in order to transfer it to Ukraine. He stressed the importance of punishing russia for its heinous crimes. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
