Last year, Latvia’s state debt increased by EUR 2.8 billion or by 22.5%, reaching EUR 15.259 billion, according to data compiled by the State Treasury.
At the end of 2021 Latvia’s state debt was EUR 15,258,909,000 and at the end of 2020 it was EUR 12,458,738,000.
The state external debt was EUR 12.287 billion at the end of 2021, up by EUR 2.476 billion YoY.
The internal debt amount was EUR 2.972 billion at the end of 2021, up by EUR 324.119 million.
The biggest portion of the state debt consists of securities, aside from alienated financial instruments – EUR 11.983 billion, up by EUR 1.557 billion.
Loans amount to EUR 1.944 billion in the state budget. This amount has increased by EUR 829.263 million. Deposits amount to EUR 1.332 billion in the state debt, up by EUR 414.169 million.
Municipal debt was EUR 1.874 billion at the end of 2021, up by EUR 107.048 million.
Considering consolidation between the state and municipalities and excluding the balances of mutual transactions of EUR 1.957 billion as of the end of the account period, the total state and municipal debt amount was EUR 15.175 billion at the end of 2021. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
