The registered unemployment level in Latvia at the end of 2021 was 6.7% of the economically active population, 0.3% more than the end of November 2021 and 1% less than the end of 2020, according to information from the State Employment Agency (NVA).
At the end of December 2021, there were 60,774 unemployed people registered with NVA, up by 3,238 people MoM, when 57,536 unemployed people were registered, but down by 8,831 people YoY, when 69,605 were registered.
Unemployment was the lowest in Riga region – 4.7% of the economically active residents, up by 0.3% MoM. The highest unemployment level remains in Latgale region – 14.5%, which is an increase of 0.2% MoM.
In December 2021, the most rapid increase of registered unemployment was observed in Kurzeme – 0.7%, reaching 7.3% of the economically active population at the end of the month.
The registered unemployment level in Vidzeme was 7.1% of the economically active population, up by 0.4%. In Zemgale it was 6.5%, up by 0.5%.
In Riga the registered unemployment level increased by 0.2% and was 4.5% of the economically active residents in December 2021.
When compared to the end of 2020, the registered unemployment level reduced in all of Latvia’s regions in 2021.
In Riga the registered unemployment level dropped by 1.2%, in Riga region by 1.1%, in Kurzeme and Latgale by 0.9%, in Zemgale by 0.8% and in Vidzeme by 0.5%.
At the end of 2020 the registered unemployment level in Latvia was 7.7% of the economically active population. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
