Chain store company Lidl has announced plans to open 15 stores in Latvia on October 7.
Lidl will open stores in Riga, Liepaja, Ventspils, Tukums, Jelgava, Ogre, Valmiera, Jekabpils, Rezekne and Daugavpils.
Lidl stores in Latvia will be open every day 08:00 – 22:00. The festive opening ceremony will be organized at all stores at 08:00 a.m. on October 7. The store in Riga, S. Eizensteina Street 81, will be opened by Germany’s ambassador to Latvia Christian Heldt, Latvian Minister of Welfare Gatis Eglitis, Riga mayor Martins Stakis and vice-mayor Vilnis Kirsis.
Lidl is well-known in Europe with its successful retail trade model – simple shopping and high-quality products for low prices. The company reports stores will offer internationally famous Lidl private brand products in various categories, as well as locally produced goods.
Planning of preparation for the opening day took several years. The opening of stores is part of Lidl’s active development strategy in Latvia. This strategy has already resulted in the opening of a logistics center worth EUR 55 million in January.
Lidl has already invested more than EUR 200 million in Latvia. Aside from stores and the logistics center, Lidl has also created new streets, roundabouts, intersections, and different improvements to local infrastructure. Lidl has also created more than 2,000 jobs in Latvia.
In parallel to the creation of a chain of stores, the company has invested in different local infrastructure objects and environmental improvement projects. Nearly 6,000 trees and bushes have been planted near stores. The total value of those bushes and trees nears EUR 400,000.
The company urges people to come to the opening ceremony with respect to standing epidemiological restrictions in Latvia. To ensure compliance with Covid-19 restrictions, Lidl will monitor customers’ compliance with rules outside and inside stores. Additionally, Lidl will limit the number of customers permitted to come inside. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
