Employers in Latvia will have the right to end working relationship with employees without the digital Covid-19 certificate until September 15, the Latvian government has decided and agreed on a list of sectors, where vaccination against the deadly disease will be mandatory.
On July 6, the Latvian government agreed on principles that would be set forth in amendments to the Law on the Management of the Spread of the Covid-19 Infection. The principles include granting employers the right to end working relationship with employees, who will not have received the digital Covid-19 certificate until September 15. It was also decided that vaccination should be made mandatory in institutions of health care, social care, education and other sectors.
In the amendments to the law, it should be set forth that employers are obliged not to expose groups of society with a heightened health risk over Covid-19 to an increased risk of getting infected.
The Latvian ministries of justice, health, welfare and finance have been tasked with drafting the respective amendments until July 14.
The ministries have also been asked to assess the compliance the planned amendments with the Constitution of Latvia. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
