Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov and China’s Ambassador to Ukraine Fan Xianrong have discussed the further development of Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation in the political, economic and security spheres, noting that the trade between the two countries in 2019 amounted to $12.8 billion, the NSDC’s press service has reported.
The parties said that bilateral cooperation was currently developing dynamically.
“Mr. Ambassador said that China was one of Ukraine’s main trade partners: bilateral trade in 2019 amounted to $12.8 billion and had prospects for further growth,” the report reads.
Both parties also discussed cooperation in the political, economic and security spheres, stressing the need to expand and intensify bilateral relations. The promising areas of cooperation include infrastructure development, scientific and technical and military cooperation.
Danilov emphasized the importance of attracting Chinese investments to Ukraine, in particular, for the implementation of infrastructure projects.
He also thanked the Chinese side for its contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic in Ukraine.
“We have received significant assistance not only from the Chinese government, but also from a number of Chinese companies,” the NSDC’s press service quoted Danilov as saying.
Fan, in turn, said that “China will continue to pursue a friendly policy towards Ukraine, cooperate with it in international organizations, and conduct a bilateral dialogue in the spirit of equality and respect.” (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
