Pasazieru vilciens (PV) and Skoda Vagonka (Skoda) have signed a contract for the supply of 32 new electric trains. The contract states that all trains have to be supplied before the end of 2023.
Company representatives say that the supply of new trains will be performed gradually – the first trains will be supplied in the first half-year of 2022. All 32 ordered trains will become available in Latvia before the end of 2023.
The contract also states that supply of trains needs to commence within 140 weeks of the contract coming into force. The contract will come into force once Skoda Vagonka submits contract performance guarantees, which the company needs to do within 30 days.
The contract for the supply of trains was signed by AS Pasazieru vilciens board chairman Rodzers Janis Grigulis, as well as company’s board members Inga Vagele and Aldis Daugavvanags, whereas representatives from Skoda Vagonka who signed the contract include board chairman Martin Bednarz and board member Milos Broncek, as confirmed by Pasazieru vilciens representatives.
New trains will be composed of four train carts. The length of every train will be 109 m, which means the total length of all trains will be 3.5 km. Each train will have seats for 436 passengers, whereas the total number of passengers trains will be able to carry will reach 13,952. Currently Pasazieru vilciens has 25 electric trains of different length and varied number of seats.
The company explains that all new trains will have climate control and other modern conveniences. Trains will be fitted with video and audio notification systems. The noise level will also be reduced. The speed of new trains will reach 160 km/h (130 km/h currently).
Pasazieru vilciens will receive electric trains fitted and ready for passenger transports. All certification, testing and commissioning will be performed by the manufacturer. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
