About 20.1% of Georgia’s population is under the absolute poverty line, shows the latest data of 2018 poverty indicators published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Georgia’s population has slightly decreased, reaching 3,723,500 people as of January 1, says another data from Geostat.
Most people under absolute poverty line live in the country’s rural areas.
Geostat said that the share of the population under absolute poverty line was 23.1% in rural Georgia and 18% in urban areas.
The share of the population under 60% of the median consumption is 20.05% (urban – 17.2%, rural – 25.4%), said Geostat.
Meanwhile, the share of population under 40% of the median consumption is 7.6% (urban – 6.6%, rural – 9.1%).
The average monthly salary in Georgia was 1,202 GEL (about $448.51 or EUR 394.92) in the fourth quarter of 2018, said Geostat. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
