Georgia exported about 12.2 million bottles of wine to 32 countries in January-February, up by 13% YoY, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.
In February Georgia generated $30 million from the sale of wine abroad, up by 21%.
The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgian wine in January-February were: Russia – 8,688,854 bottles, Ukraine – 976,482 bottles, Poland – 628,022 bottles, China – 600,783 bottles and Kazakhstan – 346,152 bottles.
In Europe Sweden saw an increase in imports of 313% increase (9,000 bottles), Lithuania – 75% (104,616 bottles), France – 24% (17,406 bottles), and Bulgaria – 6% (4,500 bottles).
To traditional export markets and Asia Georgia supplied: Mongolia – 189% increase (66,012 bottles), Belarus – 1,389% increase (80,394 bottles), Russia – 17% increase (8,688,854 bottles) and Azerbaijan – 8% increase (8,814 bottles); and to strategic export markets: United States – 1,032% increase (128,145 bottles), Poland – 42% increase (628,022 bottles) and China – 7% increase (600,783 bottles).
115 companies exported wine, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.
Meanwhile, Georgia exported 4.2 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+89%) and 85,400 bottles of Chacha (+188%) abroad in 2018.
In total, Georgia sold $43.6 million worth of alcoholic beverages in January-February 2019, including wine, brandy, chacha and others. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
