Georgia exported about 60 million bottles of wine to 53 countries in the first nine months of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.
In January-September Georgia generated about $142 million from the sale of wine abroad.
Revenue increased by 22% YoY, while the volume of exports increased by 13%, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.
Export growth was notable in the following countries: Japan – up by 68% (172,673 bottles), Poland – up by 32% (2,465,541 bottles) and Great Britain – up by 22% (67,310 bottles).
To European countries and the US: Romania – up by 390% (84,654 bottles), the Czech Republic – by 69% (31,050 bottles), the Netherlands – by 47% (60,309 bottles), Germany – by 22% (349,216 bottles) and to Lithuania – by 18% (331,620 bottles).
And to traditional export markets: Turkmenistan – by 80% (120,294 bottles), Kyrgyzstan – by 54% (179,610 bottles), Kazakhstan – by 30% (2,658,224 bottles), Mongolia – by 44% (162,390 bottles), and Ukraine – by 27% (6,746,598 bottles).
The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January-September were: Russia – 37,064,677 bottles, Ukraine – 6,746,598 bottles, China – 4,821,937 bottles, Kazakhstan – 2,658,224 bottles and Poland – 2,465,541 bottles.
Meanwhile, Georgia exported 13.5 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+19%) and 287,000 bottles of Chacha (+96%) abroad in January-September.
In total, Georgia sold $222.7 million worth of alcoholic beverages in January-September 2018, including wine, brandy, chacha and others. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
