A new highway is planned to be built from Baku to the Russian border until 2020, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev said.
Mustafayev made the remarks at the round table meeting on “Strengthening of Cooperation in Transport and Transit Transport”, which is being held at the 9th Azerbaijan-Russia Interregional Forum in Baku on September 27.
“We have a highway to the Russian border, but it does not suit us, so a new one is being built,” he said. “We think the highway will have been commissioned by the end of 2020. As for the construction of a border bridge across the Samur River, it has been launched this year.”
“Azerbaijan and Russia can invest in the project on an equal footing (50/50),” Mustafayev added. “We hope that the bridge will be opened in a year. The Russian side promises that the customs, border and other infrastructure will also be built.” (Trend/Business World Magazine)
