Former Deputy Minister of Transport, Adviser to Ukravtodor CEO Oleksandr Kava says there are about 17,000 bridges of various lifetime and size in Ukraine, while 4,500 of them require immediate repair.
“We have 17,000 bridges along public roads, two-thirds of which require major repairs, while 4,500 bridges need very urgent repairs,” Kava noted.
The official says highways that are used overtime account for 95% of the public roads in Ukraine.
“These are the roads that require major repairs. However, they are being exploited due to insufficient financing. They have expired repair periods,” he added.
As was earlier reported, former First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Shulmeyster said that there were 9,000 bridges in emergency condition in Ukraine, and they could collapse at any moment. (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
