During the meeting with Belarusian Minister of Transport and Communications Anatoly Sivak and Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Rokas Masiulis discussed the successfully operating chain of Belarusian cargo transportation using the services provided by the Lithuanian Railways and Klaipeda State Seaport, as well as the outlook of bilateral cooperation in developing the necessary transport chain for China’s cargo transportation through Lithuania, says press center of Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“Lithuania and Belarus are ready to provide competitive services for China’s international train transit to Europe. On account of quickly growing flows of cargo, the Lithuanian Railways company is ready to offer additional transport and loading capacities at the Sestokai terminal”, stated Rokas Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications.
The ministers discussed this month’s result – the launch of electric trains between Vilnius and Minsk, they also talked about possibilities of shortening the travel time even further. Another good news for both parties is a cooperation agreement (memorandum) between the Great Stone Industrial Park being developed in Minsk and the Kaunas and Vilnius Intermodal Terminals signed this year.
The meeting also involved discussions on closer cooperation between Lithuania and Belarus in developing the “Viking” container train project, with the aim of drawing the interest of Scandinavian countries in it and strengthening its positions in the Black sea region.
Compared to 2016, this year the amount of cargo transported by Viking grew by 40%. (PortNews/Business World Magazine)
