Construction has begun on a four-lane section of Tallinn-Tartu Highway between Kose and Ardu that will shorten the overall length of the highway by 5.3 kilometers.
The four-lane section between Kose and Mao will be constructed in two stages. Construction on the 25-kilometer section between Kose and Voobu is already underway, while work on the 15-kilomter section from Voobu to Mao is scheduled to begin in 2019.
As the Kose-Ardu section will follow a completely new route, existing traffic can continue to use the current route without restrictions caused by large-scale construction work until the completion of the new road in 2020.
The 40-kilometer, four-lane section of highway between Kose and Mao is scheduled to be fully completed by 2022.
The highway project is expected to shave 9 minutes off the total travel time between Tallinn and Tartu. (ERR/Business World Magazine)
