Turkmenistan is turning into a country of major transport and logistics hubs of interregional and intercontinental importance located along the Silk Road, the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an appeal to employees of the state customs service in connection with their professional holiday.
Turkmenistan’s positions in the global economic space are being strengthened, he said. In order to improve the levers of macroeconomic regulation and diversify the national economy, the relevant legal framework is being modernized, the Turkmen president noted in his appeal.
“As a result of implementation of targeted measures, the ancient Great Silk Road is reborn in a modern form – the form of international roadways, railways and airways,” reads the appeal.
Last year alone, a section of the Asian International Railway Transport Corridor, passing through the territory of Turkmenistan (in the Afghan direction), as well as major transport bridges across the Amu Darya river, were commissioned, the Turkmen president noted.
Construction of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, airports in the cities of Dashoguz and Turkmenabat are at the final stage.
“It is very important to organize the work of the customs service in accordance with modern requirements and constantly improve it for effective functioning of free economic zones in Turkmenistan, increasing capacity of transit corridors, implementing huge transport and logistics potential and bringing this potential to a new level,” reads the appeal.
